     George W. Sample was born on 3 April 1822 at Morgan, Illinois, United States. He was the son of William James Sample and Sarah Cole. He married Harriet K. Garrett on 25 September 1851 at Lee, Iowa, United States. He died on 24 July 1890 at Marion Township, Lee, Iowa, United States, at age 68. He was buried at Clay Grove Cemetery, Marion Township, Lee, Iowa, United States.
