     Biography of Robert O. D. Tompkins:

There is a Robert D. Tompkins b. 8/8/1847 d. 1/15/1904 buried in Ray's Chapel Baptist Cemetery in northern Escambia Co. Florida. Further work need to be done to verify if this Robert is the son of William H. Tomkins. Buried there also is a Robert D. Tompkins, Jr. b. 7/18/1882 d. 3/19/1967. Other Tomkins are buried in that cemetery and are likely related.

     Helen J. Tompkins was the daughter of William H. Tompkins and Mary A. E. (--?--).

     Mary A. E. Tompkins was the daughter of William H. Tompkins and Mary A. E. (--?--).

     John H. Tompkins was the son of William H. Tompkins and Mary A. E. (--?--).

     James A. Tompkins was the son of John W. Tompkins and Mary (--?--). He married Sarah McLendon, daughter of Josiah McLendon and Mary Grandberry, on 22 June 1848 at Pike, Alabama, United States.¹ He died on 15 February 1899 at Pike, Alabama, United States.²
     Biography of James A. Tompkins:

We believe the parents of the James A. Tompkins is John W. Tompkins (1803 GA) and his wife, Mary (1811 SC). James A. and his family are found in Pike Co. Alabama in the 1850 Census of Pike County, Alabama in the 1855, 1860, 1866, and 1870 Census of Covington County, Alabama and in Pike County, Alabama in the 1880 Census. Our basis for this belief is as follows: The 1830 and 1840 GA Census records show that John W. had a son about the age of James A. Also the names of James A. 's male children, Samuel and William suggest he is descended from Samuel (1765)'s line. Also in the 1866 State Census, James is found next door to John W. Tompkins (1835), the son of John W. Tompkins (1803), suggesting he might be John (1835)'s brother. Also, Mary Tompkin, age 75 (born 1805 in SC) is listed as his Mother in the 1880 Census, clearly suggesting he is Mary's son.

     Sarah McLendon was the daughter of Josiah McLendon and Mary Grandberry. She married James A. Tompkins, son of John W. Tompkins and Mary (--?--), on 22 June 1848 at Pike, Alabama, United States.¹ She died on 23 September 1899 at Pike, Alabama, United States.²

     Mary Ann Tompkins was the daughter of James A. Tompkins and Sarah McLendon.

     Amanda Jane Tompkins was the daughter of James A. Tompkins and Sarah McLendon. She died on 1 February 1897 at age 42.¹

     Samuel Buck Tompkins was the son of James A. Tompkins and Sarah McLendon. He married Mattie (--?--).¹ He died on 24 November 1932 at Coffee, Alabama, United States, at age 75.¹

     William M. Tompkins was the son of James A. Tompkins and Sarah McLendon.

     He married Eliza Tompkins, daughter of John W. Tompkins and Mary (--?--), circa 1858 at Covington, Alabama, United States.^1,2

     Sybil Bailey was the daughter of John William Bailey and Delia Natilda Carroll.

     Sarah J. Turner was the daughter of Jane (--?--). She married Samuel Watson Tompkins, son of William P. Tompkins and Eleanor Crouch, circa 1857 at Covington, Alabama, United States.¹

     John W. Tompkins was the son of Samuel Watson Tompkins and Sarah J. Turner.

     Samuel A. R. Tompkins was the son of Rukin Tompkins and Rachel (--?--). He married Ellen J. Massey, on 3 August 1856 at Washington, Georgia, United States.¹ He died after October 1862; "Samuel A. R. Tompkins went to war. He is listed in the muster roll of Co. 1, 28th Regiment Ga. Vol. Inf, Army of Tennessee, CSA, Jefferson County, Georgia, Jeff Greys or Jefferson Grays."

"Thompkins, S. A. R. (or Tompkins) - Private March 27, 1862. Substiture for K. J. N. Walden. Sick in hospital October 2, 1862. No later record."

"He must have died in that hospital because he never came back home."
