He married Rosa Lee Hardee, , on 20 January 1897 at Suwannee Co., Florida.2 Martin died in September 1937 at Suwannee Co., Florida. His body was buried in September 1937 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Branford, Suwannee Co., Florida.3

Martin is the son of Sarah Jane (______) by a previous marriage. He took the Tompkins name after his mother married John David Tompkins.
