She married Franklin William Smith, son of John Butler Gordon Smith and Annie Lee Stokely, in 1937. Myrtis died on 12 September 1975 at Thomasville, Thomas Co., Georgia, at age 61. Her body was buried on 14 September 1975 at Roseland Cemetery, Monticello, Jefferson Co., Florida.
