Dorothy Lea Sample Bridges, Springfield, Missouri, said that Walter Floyd disappeared as a young man. He is listed in the 1915, 1917 and 1919 Springfield, Missouri, City Directory; in 1919 living with his wife, Lula, at the same address as his mother, Georgana Sample, 1918 Howard, working for the Springfield Gas and Electric Company. The Springfield Republican newspaper shows that he was married to Lula Caplinger, April 7, 1918, in Green County, Missouri. In the 1920 U.S. census Soundex, Lula Sample is living with her grandfather, John Caplinger, 435 West Pine, Springfield, Missouri.

Ann Brashers found that the detailed records of the divorce were water damaged and no longer exist.1

Washington Sample married Rebecca A. Sample, daughter of Washington Sample and Sarah Petty. Washington Sample died on 20 January 1911 at Morgan Co., Illinois, at age 64. He was buried at Youngblood Cemetery, Nortonville, Morgan Co., Illinois.
