William Tompkins

M, b. circa 1807
William was born circa 1807 at Washington, Georgia, United States. He was the son of Partin Tompkins and Elizabeth (--?--).
     Biography of William Tompkins:
A William Tompkins age 30-40 plus 5 males and 3 females is listed in the 1840 Census of Stewart Co. Georgia. Other Tompkins are listed as living nearby, all members of either Partin (1775) of Samuel (1765) Tompkins. Partin has an unidentified son born 1805 to 1810 in the 1830 census and Samuel already has a son, William P. so it is unlikely that there would be two William's in the same family. Thus the William of this record is not likely to be a son of Samuel. On that basis we have assigned William as a son of Partin. [1840 US Census of Stewart County, Georgia p. 117.]
