Martin, 68, of Baxter Springs died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday Feb. 6, at Baxter Springs Memorial Hospital. Mr. Martin, born Nov. 29, 1917, in rural Columbus, lived his entire life in the Baxter Springs area and retired in 1976 from B.F. Goodrich Tire Co. in Miami, Okla. He married Marie Bowers Sept. 3, 1939, in Columbus, and she survives at the home. He served as an elder and past-board chairman of Baxter Springs First Christian Church. Additional survivors include three sons, Verl Dean Martin of Topeka, Ray Lee Martin of San Jose, Calif., and Dr. Joe Martin of Hays; one brother, Leonard Martin of Columbus; two sisters, Sarah Chandler of Boise, Idaho, and Lisa Abbott of Vancouver, Wash; and seven grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Baxter Springs First Christian Church, with the Rev. Joe Samuels officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Baxter Springs. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Baxter Springs."1
