Jozef was born circa 1795 at Poland. He married Antonia (--?--), , circa 1815 at Poland.1
Biography of Jozef Halter:
Jozef Halter is the father of Wendelin Halter based on Records of the Lutheran Church in Warsaw, Poland which were abstracted by Lidia Zakrzewski in 1978 and submitted as a Marriage Entry for sealing in the LDS Church. The author has accepted those abstracts and has not looked at the original microfilm of those early church records. The children of Wendelin (1819-c1860), (Charles Carl, Christina, Carolina, John and Jacob) immigrated as adults to Cleveland, Ohio about 1874. They all were of the Lutheran faith as were most, if not all, of their descendants in Cleveland. Family tradition indicates that Wendelin was Catholic but when he married his wife, Fryderyka Wagner, he converted to the Lutheran Faith.
The children of Maurice (1816-c1876) (Apolonia, Wincenty, and Emily) immigrated as adults to Cleveland in 1891 and were known to have lived with their cousins upon arrival in Cleveland. They were of the Roman Catholic faith.
The children of Joseph Halter (1820-c1880) (Julius, Joseph and Mary) immigrated as adults to Cleveland also, Julius about 1909, Joseph about 1892. Joseph and Julius were of the Roman Catholic faith. Family tradition holds that Joseph and Julius were cousins to Wincenty thus meaning that their fathers were brothers. This is verified by the fact that Katherine WUNSCH Halter (second wife of Maurice and sister of his first wife) died at the home of Julius and the funeral was from Julius's home. Her obituary indicates that Katherine was the Aunt of Julius and Joseph. This confirms that Maurice and Joseph were brothers.
This genealogy is based on Maurice and Joseph being the brothers of Wendelin, and therefore the sons of Jozef
Halter (1795- ). The basis for this are the personal handwritten notes of my Aunt Victoria, Victoria Felicia
Halter daughter of Wincenty, who wrote "John [this is Victoria's brother, John] help moving the hardware stock to Fleet Av. South side of Cleveland December it was bitter cold. Dad moved the hardware stock and started the Plumbing Business. He had two suites for our family to fit in. One suite was rented to a young couple that was just married. Uncle John Relatives the Germans on Gertrude Ave took our family in about one or two weeks before we had everything in order to start Dads Hardware and Plumbing." This occurred about 1905 and the John Halter living on Gertrude Avenue who Victoria called "Uncle John Relatives the Germans" was the son of Wendelin Halter. This genealogy assumes that this "Uncle John" was indeed related to Wincenty, very likely his first cousin, but would have been called "Uncle" due to his age by Victoria. The above is the basis for showings the family connection that Maurice and Joseph are the brothers of Wendelin and that all are the sons of Jozef. Obviously, more research is required to verify these relationships.
