Biography of William Henry Griffen:

He enlisted in Co H, 129th Reg. NYHA during the Civil War. He was discharged with the rank of Corporal. They moved to Talbot County, MD in 1887 where he engaged in farming. About 1890 he gave up farming and moveed to the city of Easton and built what is known as the Farme'rs Sheds. This was the first enterprise of its kind started on the eastern shore and it proved of such value to the farmers that there are now farmers' sheds in almost every town. He was a member of the Hicks Post, G.A.R. , of Easton and for many years its commander.

The following are newspaper clippings from the Progressive Batavian. Sept 21, 1877 - East Oakfield - Mr. William H. Griffin has just completed the foundation for a large grist mill. "Billy" understand his business and we wish him well. Oct. 19, 1877 - East Oakfield - Some hungry rascal entered the cellar of William H. Griffin a few nights since, and took therefrom a few pounds of beef and a quanity of butter. Moral - keep your cellar doors locked. July 6, 1894 - Daniel D. son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Griffin, of Easton, MD, formerly of Elba, died on Sunday, June 16th, at the residence of this parents, in the 9th year of his age. He was a promising child and a favorite among all his acquanintances. He died of diabetes after some five weeks of painful sickness. The may relatives and friends of the family here will deeply sympathize with bereaved.
