Biography of William Henry Griffen:

He enlisted in Co H, 129th Reg. NYHA during the Civil War. He was discharged with the rank of Corporal. They moved to Talbot County, MD in 1887 where he engaged in farming. About 1890 he gave up farming and moveed to the city of Easton and built what is known as the Farme'rs Sheds. This was the first enterprise of its kind started on the eastern shore and it proved of such value to the farmers that there are now farmers' sheds in almost every town. He was a member of the Hicks Post, G.A.R. , of Easton and for many years its commander.

The following are newspaper clippings from the Progressive Batavian. Sept 21, 1877 - East Oakfield - Mr. William H. Griffin has just completed the foundation for a large grist mill. "Billy" understand his business and we wish him well. Oct. 19, 1877 - East Oakfield - Some hungry rascal entered the cellar of William H. Griffin a few nights since, and took therefrom a few pounds of beef and a quanity of butter. Moral - keep your cellar doors locked. July 6, 1894 - Daniel D. son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Griffin, of Easton, MD, formerly of Elba, died on Sunday, June 16th, at the residence of this parents, in the 9th year of his age. He was a promising child and a favorite among all his acquanintances. He died of diabetes after some five weeks of painful sickness. The may relatives and friends of the family here will deeply sympathize with bereaved.

     Leslie Helen Griffin was the daughter of Taylor Wood Griffin Jr. and Eleanor Elizabeth Laslie.

     He married Elizabeth Smithwick, daughter of Edward Smithwick and Elizabeth (--?--), circa 1700 at Chowan Precinct, North Carolina.¹

     Mary Elizabeth Griffin was born in 1926 at Appling Co., Georgia.¹ She married William Hardwick "WH" Minton, son of Ezra Flournoy Minton and Bonnie Bell McCoy, on 21 October 1944.¹ Mary Elizabeth Griffin died on 21 November 2003 at Jeff Davis Hospital, Hazlehurst, Jeff Davis Co., Georgia.¹ She was buried on 23 November 2003 at Hazlehurst City Cem., Hazlehurst, Jeff Davis Co., Georgia.¹

     Michael Clifton Griffin was born on 26 April 1963 at Baxley, Appling Co., Georgia.¹ He was the son of Arthur Clifton Griffin and Lounette McCoy Griffin. Michael Clifton Griffin died on 27 March 1969 at Savannah, Chatham Co., Georgia, at age 5.¹ He was buried at Friendship Congregational Church Cem., Baxley, Appling Co., Georgia.¹

     Virgie was born on 4 November 1909 at Hamilton Co., Florida. She was the daughter of Joseph Oscar Griffin and Mary Etta Wetherington. She married Horace Byron Wooley, son of Willie Byron Wooley and Mary Elizabeth Crawley, on 8 January 1931 at Suwannee Co., Florida.¹ Virgie died on 9 October 1995 at Live Oak, Suwannee Co., Florida, at age 85. Her body was buried.

     William was born on 24 December 1841. He married Argent Keziah Duskin, daughter of John Little Berry Duskin and Mary Hardie, on 9 March 1869.¹ William died on 10 August 1914 at age 72.

     He married Minnie Boatright, daughter of Felix Emmanuel Boatright and Martha Elizabeth Stanford, on 22 February 1903 at Suwannee Co., Florida.¹
