     Donie Esther Brooks was born on 2 January 1885 at Sandersville, Washington Co., Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of Robert Francis Brooks and Senann Miliary Waller. Donie Esther Brooks married Horace Duggan Lord, son of Asa Duggan Lord and Mary "Molly" Radney, on 11 November 1906 at Sandersville, Washington Co., Georgia.¹ Donie Esther Brooks died on 5 August 1982 at Sandersville, Washington Co., Georgia, at age 97.¹ She was buried at Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery, Sandersville, Washington Co., Georgia.

Donie worked at Brooks Spring before she got married. Her parents Robert and Senaan Brooks ran the Hotel at one time.

Sandersville Progress - August 12, 1982 - MRS. DONIE B. LORD - Funeral services for Mrs. Donie B. Lord age 97 of Sandersville who died August 4, 1982 in the Memorial Hospital of Washington County after an extended illness; were held Thursday, August 5, 1982 at 3 pm from the chapel of Mayo - Lord Funeral Home. Rev. J. Emory Lindsey, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene Church, and Rev. Robert Boyd, former pastor of Sisters Baptist Church officiated. Interment was in Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Lord was born January 20, 1885 in Washington County, the daughter of the late Robert Brooks an the late Seanne Waller. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church. She was married to the late Horace Lord. Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Talmadge (Bertha) Wright, Sandersville; two sons Louie H. Lord, Tennille, Roy S. Lord, Cordele; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Mrs. Helen Lord, Sandersville, and other relatives.
Seated together was a group which included the Sunday School Class and Nurses from Rawlings Nursing Home and Mrs. Mae Tanner. Pallbearers were Mike Wright, Ken Wright, Greg Wright, Jeff Friedman, Troy Lord and Shane Lord. Mayo - Lord Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

She died at Washington County Hospital at the age of 97. Until her death she was a resident of a nursing home located one block from the Courthouse. [Mary Esther Lord Smith]


THIS IS A RECIPE FROM DONIE THAT SHE GOT FROM HER MOTHER SEANN, SHE GAVE TO BERNICE LORD, WHEN SHE DIED IT WAS WELL OVER 100 YEARS OLD, SEANN MORE THAN LIKELY GOT FROM HER MOTHER.

TEA CAKES
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening or butter
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
2 3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
Cream sugar and butter, add egg. Blend flour, salt and baking powder. Add flour mixture and milk to creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla. Knead. Roll out, cut in desired shapes. Place on greased pan. Bake at 300 degrees until lightly brown.¹

     Hetty was born circa 1852 at Washington Co., Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of James Brooks and Hetty Amanda Tompkins. Her body was buried at Tanner Community Cemetery, Washington Co., Georgia.

     Ida Theodosa Brooks was born on 3 August 1859 at Deep Step, Washington Co., Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of William John Brooks and Sarah Elizabeth Tompkins. Ida Theodosa Brooks married Robert Tom Miller on 13 January 1884 at Washington Co., Georgia.¹ Ida Theodosa Brooks died on 2 February 1904 at Johnson Co., Georgia, at age 44.¹

     He married Hetty Amanda Tompkins, daughter of Rukin Tompkins and Rachel (--?--), in 1833.¹ James Brooks died on 10 February 1883 at Washington Co., Georgia.² His body was buried at Tanner Community Cemetery, Washington Co., Georgia.²

     James F. Brooks was born on 14 November 1835 at Sandersville, Washington Co., Georgia. He was the son of James Brooks and Hetty Amanda Tompkins. He married Virgina Hall Bland, , on 6 August 1865 at Washington Co., Georgia.¹ James died on 14 April 1922 at Washington Co., Georgia, at age 86.² His body was buried at Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery, Washington Co., Georgia.

     Janie Brooks was born on 24 July 1895 at Washington Co., Georgia.¹ She was the daughter of Robert Francis Brooks and Senann Miliary Waller. Janie Brooks married John R. Prosser on 29 December 1912.¹ Janie Brooks died on 1 March 1970 at age 74.¹ She was buried at Brownwood Cemetery, Sandersville, Washington Co., Georgia.¹

     John Robert Brooks was born in 1858 at Washington Co., Georgia.¹ He was the son of William John Brooks and Sarah Elizabeth Tompkins. John Robert Brooks died circa 1926 at Milledgeville, Baldwin Co., Georgia.¹
