Sandersville Progress - August 12, 1982 - MRS. DONIE B. LORD - Funeral services for Mrs. Donie B. Lord age 97 of Sandersville who died August 4, 1982 in the Memorial Hospital of Washington County after an extended illness; were held Thursday, August 5, 1982 at 3 pm from the chapel of Mayo - Lord Funeral Home. Rev. J. Emory Lindsey, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene Church, and Rev. Robert Boyd, former pastor of Sisters Baptist Church officiated. Interment was in Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Lord was born January 20, 1885 in Washington County, the daughter of the late Robert Brooks an the late Seanne Waller. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church. She was married to the late Horace Lord. Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Talmadge (Bertha) Wright, Sandersville; two sons Louie H. Lord, Tennille, Roy S. Lord, Cordele; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Mrs. Helen Lord, Sandersville, and other relatives.
Seated together was a group which included the Sunday School Class and Nurses from Rawlings Nursing Home and Mrs. Mae Tanner. Pallbearers were Mike Wright, Ken Wright, Greg Wright, Jeff Friedman, Troy Lord and Shane Lord. Mayo - Lord Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
She died at Washington County Hospital at the age of 97. Until her death she was a resident of a nursing home located one block from the Courthouse. [Mary Esther Lord Smith]
THIS IS A RECIPE FROM DONIE THAT SHE GOT FROM HER MOTHER SEANN, SHE GAVE TO BERNICE LORD, WHEN SHE DIED IT WAS WELL OVER 100 YEARS OLD, SEANN MORE THAN LIKELY GOT FROM HER MOTHER.
TEA CAKES
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening or butter
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
2 3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
Cream sugar and butter, add egg. Blend flour, salt and baking powder. Add flour mixture and milk to creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla. Knead. Roll out, cut in desired shapes. Place on greased pan. Bake at 300 degrees until lightly brown.1
